MIL-S-12511G
4.5.2.7 Electromagnetic interference. The sprayer shall be tested to
determine compliance with 3.12.1. The contractor shall furnish the contracting
officer a report of tests required by MIL-sTD-461. Disapproval of the report
shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.8 Noise level measurement.
4.5.2.8.1 Personnel noise testing. The sprayer shall be tested in accordance
with the provisions of MIL-STD-1474 for steady-state noise at personnel-occupied
areas. Noise levels shall be taken while the system is at maximum rated output.
The data should include dB(A) levels and octave band pressure levels taken at
the operator's station. Duty cycle testing shall not be used.
4.5.2.8.2 Exterior noise testing. The sprayer shall be tested in accordance
with the provisions for exterior noise of MIL-STD-1474. Test procedure SAE
J1046 may be used as an alternate procedure.
4.5.2.8.3 Hazard precautions. Should the noise level exceed 85dB(A) at any
operator position, and the excess noise level can be documented as being clearly
beyond the stat-of-the-art, failure to provide the precautions specified in 3.9
shall constitute failure of this test.
4.5.2.9 Reliability. Using the MTBF specified in 3.10, the sprayer system
shall be tested as specified herein with "accept" or "reject" criteria in
accordance with MIL-STD-781, Test Plan IV. Mean-time-between-failure (MIBF)
shall be 120 hours or better when the sprayer is tested as specified herein.
MTBF shall be defined as the total number of test hours the sprayer is operating
divided by the total number of failures during the measurement interval.
Testing will continue until either an accept or reject decision is reached. A
failure is defined as any malfunction that causes inability to commence spraying
operation, cessation of spraying operation, degradation below the operating
conditions required to continue testing, or safety hazard to personnel or
equipment that cannot be corrected within 1 hour using controls, tools, or parts
available at the test facility. Repair manuals, spare parts, and special tools
shall be furnished prior to the start of any testing.
4.5.2.9.1 Test procedure. The sprayer shall be prepared for test in accord-
ance with the provisions of 4.5.2.1 and tested in accordance with the provisions
of 4.5.2.3. The sprayer shall be tested for a minimum of 250 hours of operation.
4.5.2.10 Maintenance support evaluation. Maintenance operation testing shall
be accomplished to determine conformance to 3.11. Failure of the support
elements to maintain the sprayer as specified shall constitute failure of this
test. Errors or inadequacies in the manuals shall not be considered in
assessing the maintenance ratio or the MTBF.
4.6 Inspection comparison.
The Government may select sprayers at any time
during the contract production
period and subject these sprayers to the
examination specified in 4.5.1
and the tests specified in 4.5.2 to determine
conformance to the requirement
of this specification. The inspection will be
